The cooler weather is finally knocking on our doorsteps and with it, great tidings of art events, music concerts and film festivals across the UAE for the next couple of months. So, in honour of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival which opened on Thursday (apparently Richard Gere was in town to grace the red carpet for his film ‘Arbitrage’), we’ve done a quick roundup of upcoming events that we’re adding to calendars.

Abu Dhabi Film Festival – Established in 2007, ADFF as a platform aims to help create a vibrant film culture throughout the region. Presented each October, the event is committed to curating exceptional programs to engage and educate the local community, inspire filmmakers and nurture the growth of the regional film industry. This year’s line of feature film premiers includes: The Citizen by US-based Syrian director Sam Kadi, As If We Were Catching a Cobra, Harraga Blues, Satellite Boy and alot more.

Visual Arabia 2012– a first of its kind in the region, VA is the Middle East’s premiere creative and design conference. The conference endeavours to be the melting pot of content creators across the Middle East, teeming with hot talents, fiery passion and fresh ideas. Positioning itself as a platform where everyone can network and spark new ideas, the goal for VA2012 is to build a dialogue between the local creative community and those in the forefront of the international scene. (We’ll most certainly be heading to this one!)

Foto Weekend 2012 – this annual event by Gulf Photos Plus, has gained popularity of over the years as a platform for the region’s photography community (pros, amateurs & enthusiasts) to come together, mingle, and get access to some of the world’s best photographers through a series of themed teaching workshops in Fine Art, Landscape, Fashion, Interiors, Lighting and more. This year the event is scheduled in Dubai between November 7-10th and promises an exciting line-up of talent.

Al Serkal–Quoz Nights – something’s brewing at our favourite gallery district in Al Quoz but we’re not quite sure what. All we know is that a couple of days ago @AlSerkal posted the poster below on twitter & the official hashtag for an event this November 10th is #QuozHappens

TROPFEST Arabia – the Arabic version of the world’s largest short film festival, 2012 marks the second year that TROPFEST Arabia which will be held in the Arab world. Finalists’ films from across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region will be premiered and publicly screened for the first time in front of celebrity judges and the audience on the night of the event.

Creatives Behind the Lensis a competition is open to all non-professional photographers working in the creative industries across the Middle East. The call for entries is opening on the 10th October, and those interested in entering the competition may do so by submitting 3 photos on any subject or genre. The call-for-entries continues through 10th November.

Abu Dhabi Art 2012 – located in the UAE Pavilion and Manarat Al Saadiyat, in Saadiyat Cultural District, Abu Dhabi Art 2012 fair brings together 50 of the world’s leading modern, contemporary art and design galleries showcasing over 400 artists. Many of the galleries featured this year include UAE based favourites Art Sawa, ARTSPACE, Ayyam Gallery, Galerie El Marsa, Hunar Gallery, Meem Gallery, The Third Line and a lot more other galleries from the region.
