Garden Book
For our Native plants, a book of Life
Known as the Garden City of the UAE, Al Ain’s fertile ground and abundant date palms made it an important stop on ancient trade routes. Today, this botanically rich oasis attracts visitors from all over the world to its parks, gardens and historical attractions.
Through developing a sustainable landscape that respects both the history and the future of Al Ain, the Al Ain City Municipality has gathered significant expertise in creating and managing native green spaces.
This expertise is the subject of a new book, created as a way of sharing this important knowledge. Designed by Zaman, the book nods to Al Ain’s 4,000 years as a garden oasis by using water colour illustrations of selected native flowers (created by Marie-Anne Verougstraete) to punctuate the detailed factual information.
The delicate debossed patterns on the cover and sleeve, the finely textured canvas fabric finish and open stitched binding evoke the layers of history that one feels at Al Ain—and its thousands of seasons of blossoming, blooming and growing.
